- About Us
Mountain Gem Credit Union is a member-owned financial institution whose purpose is to satisfy the financial needs of our members/owners. Unlike other financial institutions that are strictly profit driven, our excess earnings are returned to the member/owners in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings yields, or reinvested into the credit union to provide additional products, services, and capital. Because of this cooperative philosophy, when any member saves, invests, or borrows at the credit union, everybody benefits!
Originally chartered in 1955 by a small group of postal workers to serve employees of governments in Canyon and surrounding counties, and since we became community-chartered, we now serve all people who live, work, worship, or attend school in the following Idaho state counties: Canyon, Gem, Payette, Washington, Adams and Owyhee.
In January, 2008 our name was changed from Quinco Credit Union to Mountain Gem Credit Union to better reflect our expanded membership base. We are still the same great credit union – owned by the same folks, our members – and with the same friendly staff. We changed our name to help us get the word out that we are now community chartered. We are very proud of our heritage and we remain very dedicated to the philosophy that the credit union was founded upon-people helping people.
To meet the needs of our members by offering competitive financial services designed to improve the economic and social well-being of all members from all socio-economic backgrounds. We will promote growth while maintaining financial stability to assure the future success of our credit union.
To provide professional, personal, and efficient service which will enable us to be the primary financial institution for our members.
Mountain Gem Credit Union is committed to offer our services and demonstrate our value so that members, potential members, legislators, regulators, and the community at large will understand and appreciate the unique role that member-owned financial cooperatives play in their lives.
We will serve our members and reach out to the underserved within our field of membership. We will treat our members with dignity and respect as well as offer honest, fair deals with a range of low cost products and services.
We make every effort to enable our members to become financially self-sufficient. We place high importance on education and teaching of financial thrift, which follow our principles of “Not For Profit, Not For Charity, But For Service” and our philosophy of “People Helping People”. Our business practices ensure the financial strength of our credit union on behalf of our members.
